The Light Fantastic Places – Alphabetical

This list shows you the same places as in this chronological list of places in The Light Fantastic. It’s just that here they’re in ABC order.

!Xrc-! – Location precisely unknown. Spelling correct though.

Ankh (River) – That which divides Ankh the city from Morpork. You can usually walk on the surface of the Ankh, even if you’re not a deity.

Ankh-Morpork – The largest city on the Disc where much of the action in the Discworld series takes place. Ruled by the Patrician. Home of Unseen University.

Brown Islands – Encountered briefly by Twoflower on his way to Ankh-Morpork. Located somewhere between Ankh-Morpork and the Agatean Empire.

Calcutta – India. Apparently smells bad or used to.

Circle Sea – The main body of water separating the continents of the Disc. Probably responsible for preventing more wars than have already been fought.

Cori Celesti – 10-mile high mountain at the Hub of the Disc. Home to the gods of Dunmanifestin. Possible translation: Heart of heaven.

Dungeon Dimensions – Where all the demons (and much worse) live.

Dunmanifestin – The home of the major gods, those with too many followers to be included in the Temple of Small Gods. Located atop Cori Celesti at the Hub of the Disc.

Forest of Skund – The trees talk there. Especially to Rincewind who doesn’t believe they do.

France – Possibly a port on Mars.

Great Pyramid of Tsort – Holds an ancient prophecy about the Eight Great Spells. One of several pyramids in the land.

Heroes Street – Ankh-Morpork. Location of Woo Hun Ling’s shop.

Krull – An island nation that leans out over the Rim of the Disc.

Marsport – Possibly a port on Mars.

Midden Street – Ankh-Morpork. Contains just what you think. Has nothing to do with “middle”.

Mt. Oolskunrahod – Literally, Who is this Fool who does Not Know what a Mountain Is.

Ramtop Mountains – One of the main mountain ranges Hubward.

River Smarl – Longest river on the Disc.

S’belinde – According to Twoflower, Cohen had single-handed defeated the snake warrior of the with lord of this land.

Skillet, Wang, Yrxle!yt, Bunglestiff, Cwmlad and Patel – Estblshd: various. PURVEYORS. One of those shops.

Skund – Literally, Your Finger You Fool.

Street of Cunning Artificers, The – Ankh-Morpork. Contains just what you think. Only moreso.

Temple of Small Gods – Where many gods with few believers take up residence. Not the gods atop Cori Celesti.

Tower of Art – The oldest and tallest building on the Disc. Part of Unseen University. Very magical. Not necessarily artful.

Trollbone Mountains – Old Grandad’s (final) resting place.

Tsort – Location of the Valley of Tsort and thus the Great Pyramid of Tsort. Not to be confused with the Great Pyramid of Djelibeybi.

Tsort Valley – Location of the Great Pyramid. Read about it in Iyt Gryet Teymple hyte Tsort, Y Hiystory Myistical.

Unseen University – The home of the Disc’s wizards, a very magical place where magic is almost never used, and for good reason. Known as UU, for short. Sometimes misspelled, Unesene.

Vortex Plains – Location of the big circles of stone; i.e., computer hardware employed by the druids. You are to be forgiven if this reminds you of Stonehenge.

Woo Hun Ling’s Oriental Exotica and Martial Aids – You read that right. Didn’t you? Read it again, carefully.

Young Men’s Pagan Association – YMPA; has youths with studded collars and oiled muscles.
