This list contains the same persons as the chronological list of the persons in The Light Fantastic. It’s just that they’re in, well, alphabetical order instead.
Belafon – Druid who could fly large stones and land them atop two other upright stones in a stone circle.
Beryl – Wife of Kwartz.
Bethan – Saved from ritual sacrifice against her will. Marries Cohen the Barbarian. Fate probably had something to say about it all.
Blind Io – Chief of the gods who live at Dunmanifestin. He appears to be blind but has many eyes outside his body.
Breccia – Daughter of Kwartz?
Bursar, The – At UU, but not a wizard. Needs his dried frog pills. Aka Mr. Dinwiddie.
Cimbar the Assassin – Legendary warrior. Nothing else known about him.
Cohen the Barbarian – Ghenghiz Cohen. The Disc’s greatest warrior, a legend in his own time. Or as he says, “I’m a lifetime in my own legend.”
Seriph Creosote – Of Al Khali. Of his father originated the phrase, “Rich as Creosote”. (Read about Croesus, if you’re unfamiliar.)
Dahoney – When Dahoney speaks, people look at other people’s left ear when they speak.
Dean of Liberal Studies – One of several swallowed by The Luggage in The Light Fantastic. He might not be missed.
Death – An anthrpomorphic personification comprised of a skeleton, covered in a black robe, and holding a scythe (or a sword, for kings). He communicates in CAPTIAL LETTERS without the quotation marks.
Famine – Associated with Death.
Galder Weatherwax – Supreme Grand Conjuror of the Order of the Silver Star, Lord Imperial of the Sacred Staff, Eighth Level Ipsissimus and 304th Chancellor of Unseen University…to his friends.
Gancia – Leader of Herrena’s gang of Morpork mercenaries.
Ganmack Treehallet – Senior wizard of the Venerable Seers.
Granny Whitlow – Made cottages entirely of sweets. Popular but impractical.
Great A’Tuin – He or she is the turtle who moves through space in the Discworld universe. On his or her back are 4 elephants. On the backs of the elephants rests the Disc itself.
Greyhald ‘Tudgy’ Spold – Oldest wizard in The Light Fantastic. Head of the Ancient and Truly Original Sages of the Unbroken Circle. One-time Archchancellor of UU.
(Head) Librarian – Formerly human, now simian. Favorite (and nearly only) word: Oook.
Herrena – Full name: Herrena the Henna-Haired Harridan. Check the cover art for full description.
Horse Tribes of the Hubland – Members were born in the saddle, even though this was a gynaecological impossibility.
Ice Giants – Pests to the gods in Dunmanifestin. Giants can be that way.
Jasper – Youngin’ of Kwartz.
Jiglad Wert – Senior wizard of the Hoodwinkers.
Chrysoprase (aka Krysoprase and Chrystophrase) – Son of Kwartz? Head Troll.
Kwartz – A troll who helps Rincewind and company.
Lackjaw – Dwarf who made diamond din-chewers for Cohen.
Luggage, The – A mysterious box made of sapient pearwood that ambles about on hundreds of tiny feet. It arrived in Ankh-Morpork with Twoflower.
Lemuel Panter – (aka Lumuel) Senior wizard of the Order of Midnight.
Ly Tin Wheedle – A famous philosopher. I’m certain his name means something, but I don’t know what.
Offler – The Crocodile God who has difficulty with speech due to his fang-like teeth – not unlike the speaking problems encountered by all crocodiles.
Olaf Quimby II – Former patrician of Ankh. Staunch supporter of truth in advertising.
Old Grandad – Larger than life, so to speak, troll.
Pestilence – Associated with Death.
Professor of Astrology – Wizard to the stars at Unseen University.
Rhunlet Vard – Apparent successor to Galder Weatherwax. Apparent to all except Ymper Trymon.
Rincewind – A seemingly minor wizard who plays a major role in several Discworld novels. He is extremely good at running away.
Skelde – Spirit of the smoke. (See Umcherrel.)
Skrelt Changebasket – Founder of the Order of the Silver Star. Discovered interesting information about wizards’ deaths and the Eight Great Spells. Probably doesn’t know where his name comes from.
Swires – A gnome who lives in a mushroom with red and white spotted caps. Refers to Rincewind and Twoflower as “biggers”.
Topaxci – God of the red mushroom. (See Skelde.)
Twoflower (aka Two Flower, by those who do not know him well) – A tourist from the Agatean Empire who arrives in Ankh-Morpork with the Luggage.
Umcherrel – Soul of the forest. (See Topaxci, or ask a shaman.)
War – Associated with Death. Along with Pestilence and Famine, the four of them attempt to learn to play cards from Twoflower.
Weems – One of Gancia’s mercenaries. Slightly smarter and eventually slightly more alive than Gancia.
Ymper Trymon – 2nd in command to Galder Weatherwax. Movin’ on up, if he has anything to say about it.
Ysabell – Adopted daughter of Death. It’s complicated. Eventually marries Mort. (If you don’t like spoilers, skip the previous sentence.)
Zakriah – Coworker of Belafon at the stone circle.
