The Last Continent Places – Chronologic

As Terry says in the introduction to The Last Continent, “Discworld is a world and a mirror of worlds. This is not a book about Australia. No, it’s about somewhere entirely different which just happens to be, here and there, a bit…australian. Still…no worries, right?”

So here is the chronological list of not-Australia places in The Last Continent. Need them in alphabetical order instead? No worries. They’re here.

Discworld – First mentioned in Equal Rites, this is the place where it all hits the…er…takes place.

Unseen University – The home of the Disc’s wizards, a very magical place where magic is almost never used, and for good reason. Known as UU, for short. Sometimes misspelled, Unesene.

Ankh-Morpork – The largest city on the Disc where much of the action in the Discworld series takes place. Ruled by the Patrician. Home of Unseen University.

XXXX (Fourecks) – Fabled hidden continent, mate. Terror Incognita. EcksEcksEcksEcks.

Slakki – Island where the inhabitants run around in the nud. The women are of unsurpassed beauty.

Purdee Island – “The denizens of Purdee Island also existeth inne a State of Nature [like Slakki] yette is in Fine Healthe & of Good Bearing & Stature & is Trulee a Knoble Savage.” – Wasport’s Lives of Very Dull People

Moon Pond Lane – In Ankh-Morpork. Where the Librarian had been born – next to the saddle-makers.

Kiddling Street – In Quirm. Known for its bistro or teashop. Place where the wizards did not end up.

Quirm – A city near Ankh-Morpork, not to be confused with Chirm. Probably.

Mono Island – A singular place. Home of the God of Evolution, many beetles, and temporarily the wizardly staff of UU. And Mrs. Whitlow.

Morpork Mountains – The location of the death of a fortune-teller. Nothing else really known about these mts.

Klatch – Land of deserts and some jungles. Also the source of the phrase, “Pardon my Klatchian.” The country of Klatch is on the continent of Klatch.

Omnia – A very (sorta) religious country on the coast of the continent of Klatch.

Dijabringabeeralong – On the Lassitude River in Fourecks. Has a pub run by Crocodile Dongo.

NoThingfjord – From whence the dwarf Mad’s family blew in to Fourecks when he was a kid.

Bugarup – The major city of Fourecks. Home of Bugarup University (BU) and the Bugarup Opera House.

Lassitude River – Dried up streambed that hosts the annual Regatta in Fourecks.

Opera House – Center of Ankh-Morpork. The (new) City Watch house sits opposite it in Pseudopolis Yard.

Sumtri – An island where the pencil bush was discovered. Ruled by Queen Sowawondra and Queen Zazumba – at different times.

Bhangbhangduc – Island that is part of the Agatean Empire.

Goolalah – Where the bloke was from who owned the horse that Daggy thinks he won off him.

Pastoral Hotel – Seems to be located in Dijabringabeeralong. Also seems to have a supply of corks.

Quint – Created by the God of Evolution. Originally made of mud but now basically ceramics.

Vexatii – Per Rincewind’s thoughts, was inhabited by maddened blue-painted tribesmen who were fought by soldiers who were paid in salt.

Berk Street – Where Fair Go Dibbler had been just before meeting Rincewind.

Hill’s Clothesline Co. – Where the “hangman’s rope” was from that Fair Go Dibbler tried to sell to Rincewind.

Treacle Street (Bludgeree) – Where Fair Go Dibbler was born. Not to be confused with a street by the same name in Ankh-Morpork.

Bludgeree – Where Fair Go Dibbler was born, on Treacle Street.

Bugarup Opera House – Large white building with billowing structures on top that look like paper hankies protruding from a box of tissues or ships’ sails, depending on your perspective.

Bugarup Post Office – Located in Grurt Street.

Grurt Street – Location of the Bugarup Post Office.

Genua – Main setting of Witches Abroad. Sounds like Genoa. Feels like New Orleans.

Cangoolie – Has nasty miners.

Worralorrasurfa – Home of Petunia, The Desert Princess.

Dungeon Dimensions – Where all the demons (and much worse) live.

Never-Never – A large area of the Australian Outback. But since The Last Continent is definitely not about Australia, Rincewind must have had somewhere else in mind.

Semaphore Hill – Fourecks landmark over which you could see the black cloud of a storm approaching.

Bugarup University (BU) – Fourecks equivalent of Ankh-Morpork’s Unseen University for wizards.
