The Fifth Elephant Places – Chronologic

Uberwald isn’t the only place mentioned in The Fifth Elephant, but it almost could have been. This chronological list of the places in The Fifth Elephant complements the alphabetical list you’ll find here.

Ramtop Mountains – One of the main mountain ranges Hubward.

Circle Sea – The main body of water separating the continents of the Disc. Probably responsible for preventing more wars than have already been fought.

Ankh-Morpork – The largest city on the Disc where much of the action in the Discworld series takes place. Ruled by the Patrician. Home of Unseen University.

Brass Bridge – One of several bridges in Ankh-Morpork. Probably made mostly of brass or something that looks like it.

Broad Way – One of Ankh-Morpork’s busiest streets. Intersects the Street of Small Gods.

Watch House (Pseudopolis Yard) – Location of Captain / Commander Vimes’ crew.

Sto Lat – A small city in the Sto Plains, first mentioned in passing in Equal Rites. Home of King Olerve and Princess Keli.

Fools’ Guild – Formally known as the Guild of Fools and Joculators. No fooling.

Cable Street – Ankh-Morpork. A dwarf runs a deli there.

Gimlet’s Hole Food Delicatessen – Located in Cable Street.

Oblong Office – The main room of the Patrician in the Palace. Definitely not the same as the Oval Office.

Carters’ and Drovers’ Guild – They complained a lot about the (new) traffic division of the Watch. (Probably justified in doing so.)

Bonk – Properly pronounced Be-yonk. In Uberwald, home to Lady Margolotta, the werewolf clan of Baron Guye von Uberwald, the dwarf Low King, Captain Tantony, and the (nearby) Schmaltzberg fat mines. Not a major tourist attraction.

Überwald – Home to many werewolf, vampires, Igors, and other races. Homeland of Angua and Cheery.

Schmaltzberg – Near Bonk. Famed for the fat mines which legend says came from the Fifth Elephant, a creature that used to support the Disk with the other four but somehow crashed into Uberwald leaving its legacy for inhabitants to discover.

Borogravia – Small country, next to Uberwald, known for delicious chocolate and its god, Nuggan.

Genua – Main setting of Witches Abroad. Sounds like Genoa. Feels like New Orleans.

Klatch – Land of deserts and some jungles. Also the source of the phrase, “Pardon my Klatchian.” The country of Klatch is on the continent of Klatch.

Tailors’ Guild – The reception for the guild’s new president was attended by Vetinari, Lady Sybil, and – for a short time – Commander Vimes.

Chitterling Street – Likely the same as Chittling Street. If so, it’s near the Shades and has a Watch House where Buggy Swires was stationed.

Chitterling Street Station – Likely the same as Chittling Street Station.

Slipnir River – Borders Istanzia and Omnia. Cause of one of Vimes’ first diplomatic speeches.

Shades, The – A section of Ankh-Morpork that is darker (in more ways than one) than it sounds.

Guild of Thieves, Cutpurses, Housebreakers and Allied Trades – An organization, first encountered in Equal Rites, perhaps known later as simply the Guild of Thieves or Thieves’ Guild.

Guild of Seamstresses – Ladies of negotiable affection.

Dwarf Bread Museum – Was curated by the late Mr Hopkinson. Contains unusual baked weaponry.

Sto Plains – Area in which the cities of Sto Lat, Sto Helit, and Ankh-Morpork are located.

Copperhead Mountain – Major peak in Lancre.

Treacle Mine Road – Ankh-Morpork. Just off Elm Street.

Whalebone Lane – With Treacle Mine Road and Cable Street, inhabited by many dwarves.

Street of Cunning Artificers, The – Ankh-Morpork. Contains just what you think. Only moreso.

Quirm – A city near Ankh-Morpork, not to be confused with Chirm. Probably.

Bugs – In Uberwald, where the Diet of Bugs was signed.

Shambling Gate – Main entrance into Ankh-Morpork from the drovers’ trail. Leads to the A-M Cattle Market.

Pseudopolis Yard – Ankh-Morpork, not Pseudopolis. A circular street located at the city’s center. The Opera House and City Watch are on it.

Hersheba – One of two places the D’regs live – the other being nextdoor Klatch.

Gash – According to Ossory, it has wine presses, but you’d rather be in Hersheba.

Kings Way / Kingsway – Street in Ankh where the d’Eath family lived.

Cape Terror – To get by boat from Ankh-Morpork to places like Ghat, Genua, and Brindisi, you must go around this fearsome cape.

Zephire Street – Where to go if you love chocolate but not money.

Dolly Sisters – Neighborhood now absorbed by Ankh-Morpork. Has a Watch House.

Easy Street – Ankh-Morpork. Location of the Bunch of Grapes and other pubs.

Bunch of Grapes – Easy Street. Establishment possibly frequented by Captain Vimes.

Kicklebury Street – William Wittles lives there.

Scant Cullot – In Uberwald. Per what Gaspode heard, the residents caught a “wolf” there.

Nonesuch Street – It can be confusing to give direction to this street.

Slake – Small coach stop between Uberwald and Ankh-Morpork.

Wilinus – Famed for its Pass that leads into Uberwald.

Assassins’ Guild – Headquarters for the members of the Assassins’ Guild in Ankh-Morpork. Best not to know its exact location.

Ghat – A mysterious land where they believe in vampire watermelons.

Zambingo – Capital and post city of Howondaland. Misspelled on some maps as Zabingo.

Sunshine Sanctuary for Sick Dragons, The – Established by Lady Ramkin, it’s a hospital for swamp dragons.

Sator Square – The area just outside Unseen University often occupied by many merchants.

Inn of the Fifth Elephant – In Uberwald on the hubwards side of the Wilinus Pass. Vimes and company paid a visit there once.

Watchmen’s Guild – Established by Nobby (1st and possibly only president) and company in opposition to Acting-Captain Colon’s reign.

Bucket, The – Owned by Mr Cheese, on Gleam Street.

Gleam Street – Location of The Bucket pub.

Chocolate Museum – On Vodorny Square in Bonk.

Prince Vodorny Square – Location of the Chocolate Museum in Bonk. Where Vimes and Wolfgang had their showdown.

Wilinus Pass – Dangerous (unless you’re Vimes and Inigo Skimmer) pass leading into Uberwald.

Llamedos – Pllace from which Imp y Celyn hailed. (Nasty when read backwards.)

Bad Heisses Bad – In Uberwald. Seemingly known for its good hot springs.

Muntab, Theocracy of – It’s calendar counts down instead of up.

Lancre – A small kingdom in the Ramtops. Home of Nanny Ogg and several other witches and wizards.

Badger and Normal – A pyrotechnics firm in Ankh-Morpork. Noted for flares used in Uberwald.

NoThingfjord – From whence the dwarf Mad’s family blew in to Fourecks when he was a kid.

Peach Pie Street – Middle of three roads separating UU from the Palace.

Schmaltzberg Bend – Apparently the location of some of the best fat that Uberwald has to offer.

Big Tusk – In Uberwald. Has fat wells of questionable long-term quality.

River Smarl – Longest river on the Disc.

Opera House – Center of Ankh-Morpork. The (new) City Watch house sits opposite it in Pseudopolis Yard.
