Night Watch Places – Chronologic

The places are the same, but the times have changed for much of this chronological list from Night Watch. See the alphabetical Night Watch list of places here.

Assassins’ Guild – Headquarters for the members of the Assassins’ Guild in Ankh-Morpork. Best not to know its exact location.

Pseudopolis Yard – Ankh-Morpork, not Pseudopolis. A circular street located at the city’s center. The Opera House and City Watch are on it.

Patrician’s Palace – Ankh-Morpork. Theoretically the most important building in the city.

Watch House (Pseudopolis Yard) – Location of Captain / Commander Vimes’ crew.

Treacle Mine Road – Ankh-Morpork. Just off Elm Street.

Sator Square – The area just outside Unseen University often occupied by many merchants.

New Cobblers – Street in Ankh-Morpork. Location of Pluggers, a shoemaking shop.

Überwald – Home to many werewolf, vampires, Igors, and other races. Homeland of Angua and Cheery.

Cemetery of Small Gods – Behind the Temple of Small Gods in Ankh-Morpork. Maintained by Legitimate First. Interred (for now) include John Keel and other watchmen who perished in the Glorious Revolution. Reg Shoe is a former resident.

Ankh-Morpork – The largest city on the Disc where much of the action in the Discworld series takes place. Ruled by the Patrician. Home of Unseen University.

Borogravia – Small country, next to Uberwald, known for delicious chocolate and its god, Nuggan.

Mouldavia – Formerly part of Uberwald. Mr. Pin and Mr. Tulip seem to have had warrants for their arrest there. At least, there were posters with their pictures on.

Oblong Office – The main room of the Patrician in the Palace. Definitely not the same as the Oval Office.

Temple of Small Gods – Where many gods with few believers take up residence. Not the gods atop Cori Celesti.

New Hall – First place in Ankh-Morpork where Carcer was cornered. Unfortunately not for good.

Unseen University – The home of the Disc’s wizards, a very magical place where magic is almost never used, and for good reason. Known as UU, for short. Sometimes misspelled, Unesene.

Water Bridge – Major bridge of Ankh-Morpork on the hubward side.

Bridge of Size – Connects the Unseen University Gardens with the Wizards’ Pleasaunce.

Peach Pie Street – Middle of three roads separating UU from the Palace.

Tower of Art – The oldest and tallest building on the Disc. Part of Unseen University. Very magical. Not necessarily artful.

Street of Cunning Artificers, The – Ankh-Morpork. Contains just what you think. Only moreso.

Baker Street – Presumably includes bakeries. During the magical storm in Night Watch, a couple became electrically attracted to each other and later got married as a result.

Guild of Seamstresses – Ladies of negotiable affection.

Shades, The – A section of Ankh-Morpork that is darker (in more ways than one) than it sounds.

Kings Way / Kingsway – Street in Ankh where the d’Eath family lived.

Scoone Avenue – Ankh-Morpork. Location of the Ramkin estate.

Hersheba – One of two places the D’regs live – the other being nextdoor Klatch.

Phedre Road – Has tanneries, brick kilns, and timber yards.

Watch House (original, Treacle Mine Road) – First location of Ankh-Morpork’s City Watch until it became dragon-flamed.

Clay Lane – Location of the Shonky Shop run by Brother Soon Shine Sun.

Garden of Inner-City Tranquility – Off Clay Lane. Managed by the History Monks.

Pseudopolis – A major city on the Disc. In The Colour of Magic, Death is headed there because of the white plague striking the city. Home of Eric.

Cheapside – Location of the Watch barracks in Captain Tilden’s day.

Twinkle Street – Location of Dr. Lawn’s first office.

Cable Street – Ankh-Morpork. A dwarf runs a deli there.

Klatch – Land of deserts and some jungles. Also the source of the phrase, “Pardon my Klatchian.” The country of Klatch is on the continent of Klatch.

Elm Street – Ankh-Morpork. Has a mortuary.

Quirm – A city near Ankh-Morpork, not to be confused with Chirm. Probably.

Tanty, The – Ankh-Morpork’s main prison.

Dolly Sisters – Neighborhood now absorbed by Ankh-Morpork. Has a Watch House.

Pitts, The – Between Elm Street and The Scours.

Scours, The – Street in Ankh-Morpork. Location of Chalkies.

Morphic Street – Location of the Sunshine Sanctuary for Sick Dragons.

Genua – Main setting of Witches Abroad. Sounds like Genoa. Feels like New Orleans.

Broken Drum / Mended Drum – A popular tavern (for fights, etc.) in Ankh-Morpork.

Easy Street – Ankh-Morpork. Location of the Bunch of Grapes and other pubs.

Cockbill Street – Where Sam Vimes grew up. Poorest part of Ankh-Morpork.

Dimwell Street – In central Ankh. Has a sawmill.

Watch House (Dimwell Street) – Where Sergeant Dai Dickins is stationed.

Old Cobblers – Street from whence the Nobbs clan hails.

Watch House (Dolly Sisters) – Referred to in Feet of Clay, The Truth, and more. May have been torched in the Glorious Revolution.

Nap Hill – Ankh-Morpork center of textile, weaving, and clothing industries.

Chitterling Street – Likely the same as Chittling Street. If so, it’s near the Shades and has a Watch House where Buggy Swires was stationed.

Chitterling Street Station – Likely the same as Chittling Street Station.

Leastgate / Least Gate – Leads from A-M to Sto Kerrig.

Watch House (Least Gate) – Had at least one casualty in the Glorious Revolution. The watchman involved was likely to recover.

Young Men’s Pagan Association – YMPA; has youths with studded collars and oiled muscles.

Lobbin Clout – Hosts a street market on Octedays. Also known for its Pin Market.

Pewter Street – Has rough flagstones between two stretches of cobbles called trollheads.

Masons’ Road – Had masons who took good care of their road.

Hen and Chickens Field – Between the Water Bridge and Bridge of Size. Formerly a place of public execution.

Seven Sleepers – Former village, like Dolly Sisters and Nap Hill, now incorporated into Ankh-Morpork. Where Sam and Sybil live.

Whalebone Lane – With Treacle Mine Road and Cable Street, inhabited by many dwarves.

Sheer Street – A fortune teller had his crystal ball stolen there.

Pons Bridge – Connects the Isle of Gods to downtown Morpork.

Watch House (Kings Way) – One of the watch houses from which watchmen came to the barricades during the Glorious Revolution.

Short Street – One of the longest streets in Ankh-Morpork.

Llamedos – Pllace from which Imp y Celyn hailed. (Nasty when read backwards.)

Welcome Soap – Arthur Crank wasn’t about to jump from a tall building in this street.

Shambling Gate – Main entrance into Ankh-Morpork from the drovers’ trail. Leads to the A-M Cattle Market.

Heroes Street – Ankh-Morpork. Location of Woo Hun Ling’s shop.

Misbegot Bridge – Over the place where the Canting Crew usually gathers.

Shambles, The – Near the Cattle Market and Cockbill Street.

Onion Gate – Leads from A-M to Istanzia.

Guild of Lawyers – Eh, why not? The president is Mr Slant.

Lobsneaks – Where Annabel Curry lives.

Wizard’s Pleasaunce – An optimistic name for an area on the shores of the River Ankh near UU.

Goose Gate – Area in which a large land gift was given from Sam Vimes to Dr. Lawn. He got paid for that.

Ting Ling – Also, Tingling. Small island of the Agatean Empire.
