Carpe Jugulum Places – Chronologic

In Carpe Jugulum, we head back to the Lancre vicinity. Here are the places we hear of in chronological order. Go to this page to read of them in alphabetical order.

Discworld – First mentioned in Equal Rites, this is the place where it all hits the…er…takes place.

Lancre – A small kingdom in the Ramtops. Home of Nanny Ogg and several other witches and wizards.

Ramtop Mountains – One of the main mountain ranges Hubward.

Ghat – A mysterious land where they believe in vampire watermelons.

Slice – Home of Millie Hipwood / Hopgood / Hopwood, Mr Vermissage, and other minor characters.

Skund – Literally, Your Finger You Fool.

Skund Gorge – Has a little path on its side where Brother Perdore fell (60 feet) off his donkey.

Ohulan Cutash – The “big city”, if you live in Bad Ass. Not that many people have heard of it.

Ankh-Morpork – The largest city on the Disc where much of the action in the Discworld series takes place. Ruled by the Patrician. Home of Unseen University.

Bad Ass – The small village in Lancre where the wizard Drum Billet “christens” the baby girl, Eskarina Smith, a wizard – a thing which is not done, except when it is.

Copperhead Mountain – Major peak in Lancre.

Lancre River – Runs under the Lancre Bridge. Eventually connects to the River Ankh.

Lancre Gorge – The reason for Lancre Bridge.

Überwald – Home to many werewolf, vampires, Igors, and other races. Homeland of Angua and Cheery.

Howondaland – A place of steaming forests where Hrun the Barbarian has done some of his best work.

Lancre Castle – In Lancre proper, from which King Verence and Queen Magrat try to rule without getting in the way.

Muntab, Theocracy of – It’s calendar counts down instead of up.

Borogravia – Small country, next to Uberwald, known for delicious chocolate and its god, Nuggan.

Klatch – Land of deserts and some jungles. Also the source of the phrase, “Pardon my Klatchian.” The country of Klatch is on the continent of Klatch.

Omnia – A very (sorta) religious country on the coast of the continent of Klatch.

Barber-Surgeons’ Guild – Their motto: Come to us for a close shave! Their leitmotif: Shave and a haircut, no legs.

Spackle – Where they’d hanged the man that had killed those little kids.

Genua – Main setting of Witches Abroad. Sounds like Genoa. Feels like New Orleans.

Blinz – Uncle Igor worked for the mad doctor there.

Creel Springs – Home of a wizard who replaced Granny Hopliss and of Shaker Wistley.

Splintz – Where vampires die if you put a coin in their mouth…and cut their head off.

Klotz – Where vampires die if you put a lemon in their mouth…after you cut their head off.

Glitz – Where vampires die if you fill their mouth with salt, hammer a carrot into both ears…and then cut their head off.

Ah Valley – Residents believe it’s best to kill a vampire by cutting off the head and boiling it in vinegar.

Kashncari – To kill a vampire here, cut off their toes and drive a nail through their neck. That’s all.

Batrigore – Sonaton killed the Beast from there. Assumes this is a place and not the Beast’s owner.

Sluth – Urdure vanquished a Dragon from there. Assumes this is a place and not the Dragon’s owner.

Plain of Gidral – Where Urdure vanquished the Dragon of Sluth.

Myrilom – The Sons of Ezequial beat the hosts from there. Assumes this is a place and not a ruler or deity.

Escrow – Small town in Uberwald frequented by vampires.

Tsort – Location of the Valley of Tsort and thus the Great Pyramid of Tsort. Not to be confused with the Great Pyramid of Djelibeybi.

Don’tgonearthe Castle – Main domicile of the de Magpyr vampire clan.

Smale – Was at war with Elharib until 10 years ago. Wazir the bookseller hails from there. Thus his arguing with Goriff from Elharib.

Urt – Known for tiny little creatures that caused rare red tides off the nearby coast.

Citadel, The – A vast complex – religious and otherwise – in Kom, Omnia.

Valley of Mahag – Where Kazrin returned three times to wrest the cup of Hiread from the Oolite soldiers (while they slept). Assumes this is a place and not a ruler of the area.

Fools’ Guild – Formally known as the Guild of Fools and Joculators. No fooling.

Ah River – Near Klotz, at the bottom of the Ah Valley, presumably.

Aby Dyal – Mightily Oats knows of the hospice there.

Slake – Small coach stop between Uberwald and Ankh-Morpork.

Lost City of Ee – Once sought in Al Khali by Cohen the Barbarian. Found by Abraxas and Truckle. May be related to the Forbidden City of Ee.

Unseen University – The home of the Disc’s wizards, a very magical place where magic is almost never used, and for good reason. Known as UU, for short. Sometimes misspelled, Unesene.

Squintz – Spelling assumed as it had to be translated, sorta, from Thquintth. Has a Holy Turtle Pond.

Holy Fountain of Seven-Handed Sek – Igor had somehow obtained a decanter of holy water from there.

Grjsknvij – The Count and Countess de Magpyr fondly remember wonderful nights there. Best not to ask why.
